Ricky Martin and Russell Simmons took top honors at the 22nd Annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards on Saturday night. Bravo’s Andy Cohen hosted the star-studded night featuring a unique fundraising idea by ROKK Vodka.
Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Jersey Shore castmember Vinny Guadagnino were surprise guests to the awards show at New York’s Marriott Marquis. Stars strutted down the ROKK blue carpet and enjoyed ROKK Vodka cocktails throughout the night.
The recently out Martin was honored with the Vito Russo Award, which recognizes a figure in entertainment or media who has made significant contributions to eliminating homophobia. Media mogul Simmons took home the Excellence in Media Award.
ROKK came up with a unique way to raise money for GLAAD, encouraging presenters and award winners to incorporate the word “ROKK” into their speeches as part of their “I Wanna ROKK” campaign. For every “ROKK” said during the show, ROKK donated $100 to GLAAD. The crafty move translated to $10,000.00 raised by the end of the night.
Other winners included True Blood, The Advocate and Anderson Cooper 360. Congratulations to all the winners!
