Tonight: W Hotel Midtown “Turns It Up” for HRC

There has  never been a more important, or critical time, to support our right to marry here in the United States, which is why W Hotels has started a worldwide campaign in partnership with HRC called  “TURN IT UP FOR CHANGE: Love Has No Limit. Fight for 50.”   The initiative is designed to amplify the fight for marriage equality through the power of music.  At each event, a portion of proceeds from bar sales will be donated to HRC’s fight for marriage equality, and the more states that pass marriage equality, the more funds W will donate. (For example, as of today, 19 states have legal same-sex marriage, so 19% of proceeds from upcoming events will be donated to the organization.)

The event, hosted by the fabulous Edie Cheezburger, kicks off tonight at 7pm in the stunning 27th Floor Ballroom and features AVAN LAVA (photo above), DJ JD Sampson from the band Le Tigre, and Atlanta’s DJ Vicki Powell.

Atlanta will play host to additional ”TURN IT UP FOR CHANGE” events at W Atlanta – Downtown on Thursday, November 13; W Atlanta – Buckhead on Thursday, December 11; and will return to W Atlanta – Midtown on Thursday, January 8.

So, come out tonight and have fun supporting HRC and marriage equality!

W Atlanta Midtown is located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta at 188 14th Street NE. For more information about W Atlanta – Midtown, please visit www.whotels.com/atlantamidtown

5 Companies Speaking Out Against Russia

By D. David Kinney

So far there have been zero International Olympic Committee sponsors that have stepped forward to speak out against the atrocities happening to the LGBT community throughout Russia. Even as Coca-Cola became the first company to include a gay family in their Super Bowl commercial, they’re staying incredibly quiet about the plight of Russia’s gays.

Silence from big Olympic sponsors isn’t keeping other major American companies from speaking out. Here’s a look at the 5 major American companies that are actively supporting gay rights during the Sochi Winter Olympics:

Telecom giant AT&T released a statement on February 4th condemning the violence and discrimination in Russia. “AT&T has a long and proud history of support for the LGBT community in the United States and everywhere around the world where we do business. We support LGBT equality globally and we condemn violence, discrimination and harassment targeted against LGBT individuals everywhere. Russia’s law is harmful to LGBT individuals and families, and it’s harmful to a diverse society,” the company wrote.

Following AT&T’s lead, Chobani’s CEO Hamdi Ulukaya told the AP, “We are against all laws and practices that discriminate in any way, whether it be where you come from or who you love — for that reason, we oppose Russia’s anti-LGBT law.” Later the company sent this tweet:

DeVry University:

Continuing the trend, DeVry University released a statement following AT&T’s lead. “As a USOC sponsor, DeVry University, and its parent organization DeVry Education Group, supports the diversity of our US Olympic & Paralympic athletes, as well as our DeVry Group colleagues around the world. We are against Russia’s anti-LGBT law & support efforts to improve LGBT equality,” DeVry University wrote.

Two days after AT&T spoke out against Russia and one day after Chobani and Devry University, Google changed its iconic logo to a pro-gay Olympic doodle. Below the search bar Google included this section of the Olympic Charter: “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

Google FENUXE Gay Russia Sochi LGBT

Car company Chevrolet proved they’re standing “Like a Rock” with the LGBT community during the Sochi Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. Chevy paid for two ads to run during the show and both featured gay families. “The New Us” celebrates the diversity of American families and shows two gay men with their children. “Opening Ceremony – #TheNew” shows two men getting married and jumping the broom. You can watch them both below:

No Pants Subway Ride 2014 Coming To Atlanta’s MARTA

By D. David Kinney

If you hop on MARTA Sunday and discover an odd scene don’t panic. Just take off your pants and go with the flow! Seriously… how many times can you say that legitimately? The 13th annual “No Pants Subway Ride” returns to Atlanta this year with a pantless ride scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. starting at the Five Points MARTA Station.

The “No Pants Subway Ride” was originally started in 2002 by Improv Everywhere in New York City. 7 guys got together and hatched a plan to ride the Subway for 7 stops each while claiming to serendipitously find one another in the same predicament. At the end of their journey another guy came through the train selling pants for $1. You can watch the original “No Pants Subway Ride” below:

Last year we heard all kinds of funny things from people who weren’t expecting the pantless riders. One chap was convinced that “The Walking Dead” was filming a super sexy zombie scene sans pants. Another guy thought it was fraternity hazing. Want to check out the photos from last year’s chilly trip? You can see WSB-TV’s pictures from “No Pants Subway Ride” 2013 in Atlanta here.

Blazer Styling For The Holidays

By Mikkel Hyldebrandt

Over the last few years the blazer–or sport coat–has gained significant style points. It seems to have lost some of its nautical flavor and designers are taking it into different fashionable territory. The traditional and very stiff navy blazer of old has been deconstructed into a relaxed and contemporary clothing item with numerous style options. Today’s blazers can be worn well with a dress shirt and a tie as much as with a t-shirt. And even though navy is still the preferred color there are many other great choices when it comes to choosing the right nuance for your look. Here are 3 great ways to style your blazer during the holiday season.

1. Formal
Pair the blazer with a shirt and tie to give the traditional flair of a proper, gentlemanly blazer. The perfect pants for this look is a pair of khakis–preferably in a traditional sand color. Shoes should be classic boat shoes or loafers.

2. Casual
The blazer also goes great with a pair of jeans or khakis in a contrasting color like red or green. You can also choose a sport coat, which isn’t blue but go for a grey or black one instead. Wear it with a casual shirt and forget about the tie, and wear dressier shoes or casual shoes with it.

3. Relaxed
Wear your blazer with a t-shirt under it for the most relaxed look. Jeans are the perfect match here, which can even be destroyed. Of course the perfect footwear would be sneakers or high-tops.

Annie Joins Team Little FENUXE For Atlanta Pride Parade

By D. David Kinney and Candace Hunziker
From now until the close of Atlanta Pride this year we are featuring the adoptable pets walking with FENUXE Magazine in the Atlanta Pride Parade on Sunday, October 13th at 1 p.m. We’re teaming up with Friends to the Forlorn, Stubby’s Heroes, Lifeline Animal Project, Fulton County Animal Services, and DeKalb County Animal Services to feature dogs available for adoption from local shelters. We’re calling our canine companions Team Little FENUXE. If you fall in love with a member of Team Little FENUXE during the parade you can adopt him or her!

If you’d like to meet Team Little FENUXE before the parade on Sunday we’re featuring a different furry BFF on FENUXE.com every day this week. After Pride we’ll also feature a weekly pet who is looking for a good home. If you’re looking for a cute new pal please consider adopting or fostering an animal in need. Look for the FENUXE staff and Team Little FENUXE during the Atlanta Pride Parade and don’t forget to stop by our booth in Piedmont Park and say HEY!

Today’s featured member of Team Little FENUXE is Annie:

 Annie Adopt Dog FENUXE

Annie was hit by a car and ended up at Fulton County Animal Control in September 2013 when she was only 4 months old. The accident left her with some road rash, a broken front left leg, and she now has permanent nerve damage to her front right leg. Annie had surgery on her broken leg and her doctor hopes that she walk again after healing. If not, the vet may have to remove the leg with nerve damage. Annie scoots around pretty well on her elbow and she is starting to to use her pinned leg, too. She is such a happy and vivacious little dogand sweet as can be! Annie loves other dogs and is currently in foster care with large dogs. Despite everything she has gone through she still has a beautiful disposition.  To adopt Annie and see more pics of her click here.

Here is a video of Annie leaving Dr. Leathers’ office:

ROC Reschedules Street Party

By Mikkel Hyldebrandt

Republic of Couture had a massive street party planned for Saturday featuring a fashion show right on Peachtree. However, due to a direct conflict with Music Midtown, they have been forced to reschedule the event.

The new date will be Saturday October 5th from 8-11 p.m. Like before, the event will consist of a VIP cocktail party where invitees can enjoy and experience the latest fashion styles up close with drinks and delicious eats.

After the indoor reception, the party will hit the street where Peachtree will be transformed into a fashion show runway. ROC plans to preview the latest looks and trends for men, women, and kids on the outdoor catwalk. The outdoor event is open to everyone so come check out the best of what Atlanta has to offer when it comes to high-end fashion.

Despite this temporary setback we are convinced this will become one of Atlanta’s can’t miss events.
