Pet Cotillion 2013

This year’s annual Pet Cotillion is Sunday at Piedmont Bark from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. How often can you party with your pet and benefit a great cause at the same time? Pet Cotillion raises money for Pets Are Loving Support (PALS) which helps Atlanta’s senior citizens, critically ill, and disabled keep their existing pets.

PetCotillion2012-068What would happen if you were diagnosed with an illness, the medical bills piled up, and you could no longer afford to feed, medicate, and otherwise care for your pet? It’s almost unthinkable, but this terrible situation happens to people in our community everyday, and that’s why the non-profit organization PALS exists. Their slogan is “Help a friend keep a friend,” and that’s exactly what they do.

According to William Campbell, owner of Piedmont Bark, last year’s Pet Cotillion raised $16,000, and 100 percent of the proceeds went to PALS.

At the event, the Pet Cotillion contestants will be paraded across the stage in their (optional) costumes, but this year, unlike the Pet Cotillions of the past, guest pets will be allowed to strut their stuff as well.

PetCotillion2012-033In addition to the onstage pet parade, the silent auction at the Pet Cotillion benefits PALS. Kevin Bryant, executive director of PALS, says the silent auction will “have everything ranging from gym memberships, to hotel stays, Savannah Bed and Breakfast getaway, in home dinners for eight from Dennis Dean Catering, along with many other items.” Campbell adds that the silent auction prizes also include roundtrip airline tickets and restaurant meals.

DJ Pat Scott, regular DJ at the Atlanta Eagle, will keep the party going along with tasty food by Dennis Dean, and an open bar sponsored by Diageo.

Owners can enter their pet in the contest by registering him or her at palsatlanta.org. The pet with the most votes (each vote it $1) will become the 2013 spokespet, acting as the face of PALS in all its marketing and advertising campaigns for the year. Bryant says PALS will contact the owners of Pet Cotillion competitors to let them know their voting status.

PetCotillion2012-090Following the Pet Cotillion, an after party will be held at 10th & Piedmont, where there will be a raffle, drink specials, and a suggested donation for PALS at the door.

Purchase tickets for $20 in advance at PALS Atlanta or at the door for $25.
